“Union Veterans and the Disability Pension Paradox,” Sarah Handley-Cousins, University at Buffalo
While it seems that disabled Union veterans would be lauded as the ultimate heroes of the won cause, Sarah Handley-Cousins will talk about the complex ways that disabled veterans were viewed by the Northern public after the Civil War, the struggles they faced, and the difficulties they experienced when trying to get pension support from the federal government.
