Lowman Family - Jacob Lowman, his wife, Hilda, and and his younger brother, Martin, first came to Chemung County in 1788. 

Seymour Lowman - Seymour Lowman, son of John and Fanny Lowman, was born October 7, 1868 in the town of Chemung.  On September 7, 1893, he married Katherine Harding Smith.  Their children include Caroline (b. May 31, 1904) and A. Marshall.  Lowman served in the New York State Assembly from 1909 to 1910 and the State Senate from 1918 to 1924.  He was Lieutenant Governor of New York from 1925 until 1927 when he became Assistant Secretary of the United States Treasury.  During prohibition, he was in charge of enforcement until he was forced to resign in 1933.  He retired to Elmira and became president of the Elmira Savings Bank until his death in 1940.

Document, The John Myles Garrison House, was a meeting place for the troops of Massachusetis Bay and Plymouth Colonies commanded by Majors Thomas Savage and James Cudworth who marched to the relief of Swnases at the opening of the King Philip's War A. D. 1675. There fell in Swnases by the Indians, John Salisbury. His name is inseribed on the momument eracte 21912 A.D. John Salibury killed by Indians June 28, 1675. The Salisbury Line. Newspaper clipping. Star Gazette, Round Town by Matt Richardson. Seymour Lowman Writes and Publishes Genealogy of his Pioneering Family. Seymore Lowman the third generation to live in Chemung County. The orignial Lowmans were full German Extraction, devout members of the Lutheran Church. So original had the Teutonic spelling, Lauman. Jacob Lauman Sr. Elizabeth Lauman Landis his twin sister and Martin Lauman his brother were the first to invade the Chemung Valley. Slavery was permitted in New York State. Black Charlie a negro. His people were slaves of the Lowman Family until the practice was abolished in 1828. They were employed as servants.Newspaper Clipping010201
