Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by the Westfield Memorial Library in 2012.

Historical:

Scharf Family - Edward Scharf (1831-1874) and his wife Elizabeth (1826-1897) emigrated from Germany to Elmira, New York, in 1852.  He worked as a butcher, as did his son.  

Sheely Family - Frederick Sheely Sr. (1801-1826), his wife, and children emigrated from Germany to the United States during the 1830s.  They initially settled in Allegheny County, New York, but the oldest son, Frederick Sheely Jr. (1828-1901) eventually settled in Southport, New York.  There he established a tannery.  His sons continued the tradition with their own tanneries. 

Fred Scharf (1885-1953) married Mildred H. Sheely (1893-1974) in 1919.  Their daughter Harriet and Mildred's sister Olive Sheely (1889-1982) compiled the collection. 

Scope:The Scharf-Sheely Genealogy Collection contains genealogical notes and family papers compiled by Harriet Scharf Ehringer and her aunt Olive Sheely concerning the Scharf and Sheely families and related lines.
