Historical:Elmira Nobles Manufacturing Company-The Elmira Nobles Manufacturing Company was founded in 1874 and located at 601 Baldwin Street.  The company manufactured augers, axes, drill bits and other carpentry tools.  From 1874 until 1877, the company was run by a series of businessmen until it was bought out by Treasurer Solomon L. Gillet and his partner Robert T. Turner.  The two changed the name to Gillet & Co.  The company went out of business in 1886.
Scope:The Elmira Nobles Manufacturing Company/ Gillet & Co. Collection contains receipts from vendors, 1876-1885; bank deposit receipts, 1865-1868; personal receipts for various individuals, 1865-1942; and business correspondence with C.E. Jennings & Co. including requisitions and letters of payment, 1877-1885.
