Historical:Communications Workers of America - The trade union the Communications Workers of America (CWA) was formed in 1938 under the name the National Federation of Telephone Workers.  It became the CWA in 1947.  It is currently affiliated with the AFL-CIO and other unions.  In addition to telecommunication workers, the union represents workers in fields including news media, transportation, health care and industry.  The Elmira-area Local 1111 was founded in the 1970s. 
Scope:

The Communications Workers of America Records contains correspondence, contracts and miscellaneous documents related to labor agreements between the Communications Workers of America Local 1111 and area businesses and municipalities, 1972-2005.
