Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

Provenance:The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Ted Marciniak in 1995.

Historical:Chemung Valley Savings & Loan Association- The Chemung Valley Mutual Loan Association was founded by Judge Seymour Dexter on April 26, 1875 in order to help Elmiran's purchase their own homes.  During its first fifty years, the Association rented a series of offices including a building at the corner of Baldwin and Carroll Streets, 153 Lake Street and the first floor of the Federation Building.  In 1923, they purchased their own home at 220 East Water Street.  In 1927, the name changed again, this time to the Chemung Valley Savings & Loan Association.  In 1964, bank relocated again, this time to 351 North Main Street.  During the early 1970's, the Association expanded with branches in Elmira Heights and Watkins Glen.  They were bought out by the Columbia Banking Federal Savings & Loan Association some time in the 1980's.
Scope:The Chemung Valley Savings & Loan Association Collection includes photographs, bank records and newsletters.  The bulk of the collection consists of photographs of Association buildings and employees as well as a series of photographs detailing the damage caused by Hurricane Agnes in 1972. 
Notes:CL 46 shares a box with CL 47.
