Historical:Lewis Family-James and Anna Lewis began working the circus and carnival circuit throughout New York's Southern Tier and Northern Pennsylvania in the 1940's.  Their son, John, met his wife Eva while working at Eldridge Park in 1976.  They were married on February 9, 1980 and their children Karl and Mary Ann were born on July 17, 1980 and June 12, 1981 respectively.  Anna Lewis died on February 9, 1983 and James died on May 3, 1983.  John and Eva Lewis and their children continued to work on the carnival circuit. 
Scope:The John Lewis Collection contains photographs, drawings, documents and an audio cassette all relating to the Lewis family and their involvement in the carnival circuit.  John Lewis's drawings of carnival life form the bulk of the collection and date from the early 1990's.  The photographs are of the Lewis family and local area events and date primarily from 1992.  The documents are lists of carnivals worked by the family.
