Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

Historical:

Richard Seem- Richard Seem was born in Elmira, NY on April 20, 1915.  He graduated from Elmira Free Academy in 1933 and from the University of Pennsylvania's Wharton School of Business and Finance in 1937.  A month later, he began work at the Elmira Star-Gazette as an advertisement salesman.  During WWII, he left the paper to serve in the United States Navy and, in 1942 he married Margaret Osmun of Horseheads while on leave.  After the war, he returned to the Star-Gazette, this time as the retail advertisement manager.  He went on to serve as the papers business manager and chief accountant until he retired in June 1977.  Outside of work, Seem was active in the Elmira Rotary Club which he joined in 1952.  From 1960 to 1961, he served as the president of that organization.

Scope:

The Richard Seem Collection contains three scrapbooks about Elmira from early 1900's and 1940's.  It also includes documents relating to Richard Seem's term as president of the Elmira Rotary Club from 1960 to 1961, various newspaper clippings ranging in date from 1939 to 1964, letters by Frank Tripp and a small collection of bills and receipts dating from 1886 to 1928.
