Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

Provenance:The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library in 2008 by the members of the American Association of University Women's Elmira-Corning Branch.

Historical:

American Association of University Women, Elmira-Corning Branch- The Elmira-Corning branch of the American Association of University Women (AAUW) was founded March 4, 1916 as the College Women's Club of Elmira.  The organization was open to women with a Bachelor's Degree or higher.  The goal was to help female graduates continue their educations through lectures and discussions.  Over the years, the goals of the club have expanded to include scholarships and legal and political advocacy for women.  In March 1917, the club merged with the Association of College Alumnae.  The name changed again in 1921 to the American Association of University Women.  Around 2000, the Elmira branch was extended to cover Corning and the entrance requirements were expanded to include women with Associate's Degrees as well. 

Scope:The American Association of University Women Collection contains material relating to the Elmira-Corning Branch of the organization including scrapbooks, 1917-1959; minutes 1916-1921, 1947-1969, 2003-2005; membership directories 1939-2006; and branch newsletters, 1951-1953, 1967-present.
