Historical:Helen Booth Sprecher- Helen Isabel Booth was born October 19, 1913 in Spangler, Pennsylvania.  She attended college at the Pennsylvania State Teachers College at Slippery Rock, Pennsylvania and earned her degree in health and physical education.  She later took additional continuing education courses at the University of Pennsylvania and Penn State.  During World War II, she served in the Women's Army Corps from August 1942 until her discharge in January 1946 at the rank of Captain.  She served with the Women's Army Auxiliary Corps in Fort Des Moines, Iowa and Daytona Beach, Florida and with the Army Air Corps in California and the Pacific.  On August 11, 1951 she married James Sprecher of Elmira, New York.  The couple stayed in Elmira where Helen worked for the Elmira City School District.  She continued to serve in the Air Force Reserves. 
Scope:The Helen Booth Sprecher Collection contains official documents relating to Helen's military service from 1942 to 1954; photographs, 1942-1945; personal correspondence, 1942-1944; and documents relating to the Women in Military Service for America Memorial Foundation, 1992-1995.
