Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index.

Historical:

The Mark Twain Hotel- The Mark Twain Hotel was located on West Gray Street at North Main in downtown Elmira, N.Y.  It was designed by Geo. B. Post & Sons, Architects and built by the Lowman Construction Co. Other notables involved in the hotel's development included J. John Hassett, Frederic H. Hill and Arthur B. MacLeod.  The hotel opened on March 23, 1929. The Mark Twain Hotel was host to several restaurants, cafes and shops and served as a premier location for parties and banquets.  The Mark Twain began its slow decline in the 1960s, and in 1973 it was shut down and was converted into an apartment building. 

Scope:The Mark Twain Hotel Collection contains photographs of the hotel's construction; promotional brochures; menus; correspondence relating to the installation of a sprinkler system and architectural and construction plans.
