Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index.

The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Ruth Turner in 2003.

Historical:Harry A. Turner- Harry Austin Turner was born in Elmira on January 18, 1891, the son of John and Carrie Turner.  He attended Public School #5 and Eugene "Zim" Zimmerman's Correspondence School of Cartooning, Comic Art and Caricature.  During World War I, he served in the United States Army and was wounded in France.  On September 9, 1919, he married Estella Keith (1891-1995), also of Elmira.  The couple had two children, Ruth and Keith.  Turner ran H.A. Turner Roofing Co. in Elmira until he retired.  He died on January 31, 1983. 
Scope:The Harry Turner Collection contains photographs, documents, drawings and correspondence relating to Harry Turner's military service during World War I (WWI), 1918-1919.
