Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index.

Provenance:The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Herrick A. Smith, Jr., in 2002.

Historical:Elmira Urban Renewal-Following the devastation caused by the 1972 flood, the City of Elmira worked with the New York State Urban Development Corporation and various community groups to re-develop the downtown area.  During the course of the project, the city demolished a number of buildings, re-built damaged bridges and laid down Clemens Center Parkway.  Herrick A. Smith Jr., a local amateur photographer, took photographs documenting the process. 
Scope:

The Herrick A. Smith Jr. Photograph Collection contains photographs of Elmira's urban renewal project following the 1972 flood.
