Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

Historical:Strathmont Museum-The original Strathmont mansion was built in the 1890s by Elmira businessman, J. Sloat Fassett.  The original structure was razed in 1929 and a new house was built by J. Arnot Rathbone.  Following Rathbone's death in 1958, the Strathmont was purchased by Mrs. Nellie Welles Mooers and turned over to a non-profit for use as a museum and cultural center.  The Strathmont Museum opened for business on January 1959, but quickly ran out of funding.  It suspended operations in May of 1960 and was acquired by Elmira College in February of 1961.  Some of the museum's artifacts were returned to their original owners, while others were passed on to other local area museums.
Scope:The Strathmont Museum Records contain administrative documents relating to the museum dating from 1958 to 1960 including: receipts for returned materials; an inventory of the museum's holdings; loan agreements and Deeds of Gift for donated objects.
