“Abolition, Slavery, and Lincoln: Noting and Remembering the Cornell University Library’s Civil War Era Collections,” Lance Heidig, Cornell University Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections
Cornell University was founded on April 27, 1865, just two weeks after Lee’s surrender at Appomattox and Lincoln’s assassination. Its co-founder and first president, Andrew Dickson White, was a historian and collector on a massive scale. He believed that students learned best from original sources and his belief continues to guide the philosophy of the University and its Library. Lance Heidig, Outreach and Learning Services Librarian, will discuss archival research and featured artifacts held in the Library’s Division of Rare and Manuscript Collections.
