2021 GHOSTWALK TOURS
We have three tour options this year, so take your pick! All tours are nonrefundable and take place rain, shine, or dark of night. Advance reservations are required and all are online through our Gift Shop/Events site.
Members $15, Nonmembers $18, and VIP tour is $40.
Friday, October 15th & Saturday, October 16th
We’re calling these our traditional tours. If you’ve attended GhostWalks in the past, they’ll seem familiar to you. Museum doors open at 6 pm. Park at the Chemung Valley History Museum at 415 East Water Street, Elmira. Tour buses leave the museum at 6:30, 6:45, 7:00, 7:15, 7:35, 7:50, 8:10, 8:25, and each tour is limited to 24 people. Masks are required. Bus groups will meet their Woodlawn Cemetery guide and walk along ½ mile dimly lit paths to meet figures from Elmira’s history. Plan for tour to last about an hour. Groups return by bus to the museum where everyone is welcome to browse the galleries or enter the trivia contest. We suggest you bring flashlights and wear comfortable shoes. Masks are required and Friday and Saturday tours are NOT accessible for wheelchairs or strollers. For tours designed to accommodate wheelchairs or those needing more time to walk, please see Sunday's tours.
Sunday, October 17th
This year we’re offering tours accessible for all visitors. The Sunday tours begin earlier to catch the light and these tours ARE wheelchair and stroller friendly. Tours meet at Woodlawn Cemetery’s Walnut Street gate and guides will lead you on the same route as the Friday and Saturday tours to meet figures from Elmira’s history. Without the buses, plan on tours lasting closer to 1.25 hours and covering a distance of .75 mile. Advance reservations are required and tours take place at 4:00, 4:30, 5:00, and 5:30 pm. Each tour is limited to 30 people, and we ask that everyone purchases a ticket.
Sunday, October 17th VIP TOUR
Support the museum, meet the staff, and learn a little extra! The 6 pm Sunday VIP Ghost Walk tour will meet at Woodlawn Cemetery’s Walnut Street gate. Museum Director Bruce Whitmarsh and staff will lead you to meet this year's historical figures and along the way we’ll share added stories and historic extras. At the tour's conclusion we'll have light refreshments, goodie bags (including an exclusive booklet with Ghost Walk scripts and photographs), and a chance to talk with staff and mingle with the actors to find out more behind the scenes happenings! This tour is also wheelchair friendly.
