The Chemung County Historical Society and the Friends of the Chemung River will be hosting Bringing the River to the Kids on Saturday, June 18 from 2:00 to 4:30pm at the museum.
River Friends staff and volunteers and members of the Golden Glow Volunteer Fire Department will teach children water safety and basic paddling in a kayak and canoe. Children will practice in a water-filled portable pond, erected and filled by the fire department members in the parking lot of the Chemung County Historical Society. Members of the fire department will also speak about river safety and river rescues. A limited quantity of life vests will be given away to children.
Also, come inside the museum to see the new exhibit, The Chemung River. The exhibit examines how people have interacted with the river throughout history.
This event is free and open to the public.
