Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

Provenance:The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Dr. Jack Thomas in 1991.

Historical:Sarah B. Rockwell Antes-Sarah Rockwell, originally of Horsehead, NY, came to Elmira during the 1890s and worked as a clerk while boarding at her brothers' home on Oak St.  In 1895 she married Wilbur M. Antes (1870-1960), the son of James and Addie Antes, originally of Pennsylvania.  Mr. Antes held a number of jobs including carriage painter, carpenter and inspector for Wyllis-Morrow and later Remington Rand.  The couple had two daughters, Leona and Arlene who married Conway D. Thomas and a Mr. Minard respectively.  Sarah Antes died in 1954 and Wilbur Antes died December 4, 1960. 

The Thomas-Rockwell collection contain the diaries of Mrs. Sarah Rockwell Antes from 1893-1896 and 1933-1948; material relating to the estates of Sarah and Wilbur Antes; and material collected by the Antes and Thomas families.


Material involving bank records and social security numbers are restricted from public access until 2050.
