Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index. 

The manuscript index contains links to finding aids for the collections of the Booth Library.  Each finding aid has a description of that collection along with a listing of the items within that collection.  The Booth Library staff and volunteers are updating the index daily in order to make your research experience more productive.

Historical:

Carl Proper - The son of Charles and Margaret Proper, Carl E. Proper was born in Elmira in 1938.  He began working for Channel 18, WSYE-TV, in 1956 as 'Coach Carl' on the kid's show TV Clubhouse. He eventually switched to news and remained on the air at Channel 18 (later called WETM-TV) for over 35 years as a report, anchor and weather man.  Proper was highly active within the community.  He acted regularly in the Elmira Little Theatre and narrated concerts for various orchestral groups.  He was involved in a number of local charities including the Arctic League, Glove House and the Red Cross.  He died on October 6, 2012. 

Scope:The Carl Proper Collection contains papers, photographs and newspaper clippings relating to Carl Proper's television career and charitable works as well as programs, images and clippings relating to the Elmira Little Theatre.
