Welcome to the Booth Library manuscript index.

Provenance:The items in this collection were donated to the Booth Library by Kay Jenkins Ackerman in 2003.

Historical:Jenkins Family-William Jenkins (1764-1846) came to the Chemung Valley area in 1788 and worked as a surveyor.  He served as Tioga County sheriff from 1801 to 1810 and again from 1822 to 1825.  His son was Jonathan (1781-1852) Jenkins, husband of Nancy (1795-1841) and father of William (1831-1882).  The younger William Jenkins married Catherine Welch (1830-1916) in 1855.  During the Civil War, he served as a Corporal in Company E of the 11th Pennsylvania Cavalry.  The couple had a number of children including Nancy, Mary, Elizabeth, James, David, and Jonathan. 
Scope:The Jenkins Family Papers include a court docket ledger, 1823-1825; assorted military records; miscellaneous papers; and Jenkins family photographs.
