Brooks/ Gleason/ Wales Family - Dr. Rachel Brooks Gleason (1820-1905), originally of Vermont, settled in Elmira with her husband, Dr. Silas O. Gleason (1818-1899) and opened the Elmira Water Cure in 1852.  She was later joined in that business by her sister and brother-in-law, Drs. Zippie Brooks Wales (1836-1912) and Theron Wales (1842-1914).  Brother John Q. Brooks (1827-1890) settled in the area in 1856 and was an influential farmer in the Town of Horseheads.  All three had children who remained in the area including Dr. Adele Gleason, Edward Gleason, and Ralph Wales (1878-1908).

Scope:The Brooks/ Gleason/ Wales Collection includes papers associated with the Gleason Water Cure; the personal papers of John Q. Brooks, Ralph Wales, and Theron Wales; family photographs; and misc. items.
