Historical:Persian Gulf War- The Persian Gulf War, also known as Operation Desert Storm, took place between August 2, 1990 and February 28, 1991.  It was a conflict between Iraqi and a coalition force from 34 nations including the United States.  The war began when Iraq invaded its neighbor Kuwait on August 2.  Shortly there after, the United States and Great Britain began to deploy troops to Saudi Arabia in what was called Operation Desert Shield in order to prevent a possible invasion of that nation.   On January 12, 1991, the United States Congress authorized the use of military force to drive the Iraqis out of Kuwait.  A campaign of intensive airstrikes known as Operation Instant Thunder began on January 17.  The ground war began February 9, with the first major offensive beginning on February 24.  By February 27, all Iraqi forces were out of Kuwait, effectively ending the conflict.  By March 10, 1991, the troops began to come home. 
Scope:This collection contains journals, handbooks, newspapers and notes dating from the Persian Gulf War of 1990-1991.  The majority of the journals, notes, newspapers and documents are in Arabic and were captured by the donor during his tour of duty.
